Pet Parent Joy
One of my greatest joys is being a pet parent. It’s easy to understand why the Chrissy’s Mysteries series includes so many dogs and how their owners ensure their well being. When writing the Chrissy books, I used actual dogs from my neighborhood who Chrissy befriended.
Ace, the German Shepherd Dog (yes, that’s the official breed name), was modeled after my friend’s K-9 police partner, Shep, but I changed the name to my very first dog from childhood. He belonged to my grandparents, and was my guardian and friend from the first time we met when I was an infant. Ace watched over me, and whenever I visited, we were inseparable. I remember feeding him dog cookies, hearing him crunching them, followed by the sound of the vacuum cleaner to pick up the crumbs. Due to my relationship with Ace, German Shepherd Dogs hold a special place in my heart. He’s the reason I have such love for these furry treasures in general.
If you’re a pet parent, you know the joys, challenges, and heartbreak of caring for and loving your precious fur babies. They are children forever, needing guidance and protection as they provide us with unconditional love.
My sweet girl, Lily (Shih Tzu mix), sits with me as I write. She has a comfy bed positioned on a chair next to my desk so she can see out the window. Having her there prompts frequent snuggle breaks. She loves barking at passersby or delivery people to alert me to folks near the house. Her warning bark is different from her hey-my-friend-is-out-there whine. Her vocalizations vary depending on who is outside, and I can tell without looking what she sees.

“This series has a calming effect on me. The author does a wonderful job of writing a page-turning mystery that you can get lost in for hours. Even though it is a work of fiction, when you put the book down you feel renewed and refreshed. There is a lot of character development in this series and I enjoy seeing how the characters have developed throughout the three books. I am looking forward to seeing where the author takes the series next!”
